A minor tremor measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale shook the Ottawa Valley this afternoon at around 1:37pm. The quake was centered about 6 km ESE of Hawkesbury on the Quebec/Ontario border (about 74km from Montreal). While the shaking was widely felt for about 10 seconds from Cornwall to the West Island of Montreal, no damage was reported. I was driving in Pointe Claire at the time and felt nothing, unlike the Val Des Bois quake that shook the region last June 23rd. Ironically I was in the car for that one as well as both happened during my lunch hour, that one at 1:41pm on a Wednesday as well.

Hi,
My boyfriend and I plan on driving from Boston, MA to Montreal, QC and have heard that there has been flooding along the St. Lawrence river. I read your earlier posts saying that there was flooding last week, do you think that will affect our travels for this saturday?
Thank you.
He Serena, you have no problems at all. The flooding we had here in Montreal was primarily due to melting snow and rainfall. The St. Lawrence River no longer floods in the Montreal area. The main threat for flooding this year will come along the smaller rivers southeast of Montreal in the area known as the Eastern Townships and the region bordering Vermont.
