Arctic front

An arctic cold front is currently pushing across eastern Ontario heading towards western Quebec. A brief period of heavy snow occurs along the frontal passage and drops several centimetres of snow in a very short period of time. Visibility in snow and blowing snow will drop to less than 1km rapidly. Keep this in mind if travelling the 416, 401, 417, 15, 20 or 40 in the next few hours. Radar is showing the front just west of Ottawa with heavy snow along the 417 to Renfrew. The temperature will fall rapidly with the frontal passage and winds will increase to 30-50km/h out of the northwest. North Bay has already fallen to -18C while Ottawa is -3C and Montreal -1C.

A special weather statement is available HERE. Skies should clear early Tuesday but it will remain windy and bitterly cold. The cold air will remain with us for the balance of the week with a good chance of snow on New Years Day and Saturday.
