Sorry folks, I am a little late on this update. Things are still on track for a big storm beginning late Tuesday in Ontario and Wednesday in Quebec. This is a difficult forecast because of the track of the system which appears to be from Colorado towards Chicago and then Ottawa. The facts are that it will be an intense low pressure area with lots of moisture (over 1 inch liquid) and very strong winds. It will be followed by the coldest air of the season on Friday. It is possible that Montreal and Ottawa could see 10-20cm of snow followed by mixed precipitation. It is also quite probable that we will have wind gusts approaching 100km/h. There are a slew of warnings out tonight across the US from the Rockies to the Great Lakes. I imagine we will see some watches posted locally by tomorrow morning.
The cold air that will invade our region set several record lows in Alberta this morning including -37.5C in Edmonton shattering the previous record of minus 35C in 1972.
