The freezing rain began in the Montreal area just after the noon hour today and has continued most of the day. It fell quite steady around 6pm with several millimetres accumulating on trees and wires. The roads were in decent shape but many of the sidewalks and parking lots were treacherous. As of 11pm the warnings have been dropped for the immediate metro region, but I am still showing 0C with a sleet and freezing rain mixture here on Ile Perrot. Across eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Valley the warnings remain in effect, however they have been lowered for Kemptville.
The front will slowly lift north of the region overnight and temperatures should warm to just above freezing allowing the precipitation to be rain. Any untreated roads will remain very slippery.
The photo above is from Merrickville, Ontario. Thanks so much Andy W. for reading and for allowing me to use the photo. The one below is of the sleet and ice accumulating on my car here on Ile Perrot.
